Feed
DFI grows and monitors the crops for the livestock, feed either on its own fields or in contracted fields. After harvesting, the feed is processed into what will be the livestock feed meals. Each day, the feed is mixed into meals and delivered to the animals.
Waste management
The manure is collected daily and fermented for at least 60 days adhering to the EU standards. The manure is then transferred to a separator that separates between the solids and the waste water.
The solids are used to produce compost that is later used to fertilize the very same fields on which the feed is grown.
The water with a fairly low level of PPM by this time undergoes anaerobic fermentation and separation process and is used for the field's irrigation. Thus, a full circle eco-system is achieved.
Energy Usage
Some of the bi-products of the manure are Methane gas. The gas can be collected and converted either to Methanol or transformed to electric energy. This energy is either used on the farm or sold to the grid.
DFI is investigating the possibilities for use of alternative energies in addition to the Methane gas, such as synthetic diesel, wind energy and solar energy. Synthetic diesel is a replacement technology for manure handling but requires additional types of manure. Wind energy seems to make sense as dairy farms are located in open areas where winds are prevalent, while solar energy is being considered as part of the acceleration of the anaerobic fermentation process in the manure lagoons by covering them and producing electricity for the farm's use.
